Derby Name: Whacker-y Binx
Teams played for:
7th May 2016
How did you get into roller derby?
It was something I always wanted to do and a change in lifestyle meant I finally felt ready to take on the challenge!
Favourite derby moment:
There's actually a lot! Can't pick. Sorry. There are lots, usually when I see one of my derby chums doing something they've never been able to achieve before.
Most embarrassing derby moment:
Hmmm... none as yet that I can remember, falling doesn't count as everyone falls at some point!
How did you choose your derby name and number?
30 was the age when I finally got my finger out and started going to Derby. The name Whacker-y Binx was actually a suggestion from one of my teamies as I was struggling to find a name, Binx is the name of one of my cats and he was named after Thackery Binx in Hocus Pocus.
What advice would you give to anyone interested in trying roller derby?
Do it! And if you keep doing it, get a decent mouthguard and knee pads!
What's your favourite thing about GCRD?
The spirit - there are so many different people from all walks of life with so many different interests but they all come together wonderfully for derby!
None as yet as I haven't played any games, I'm aiming to be well hydrated.
Any skaters that inspire you?
Theres so many great skaters now, GCRD have some very talented skaters, Raw Heidi from London RollerGilrs seems pretty cool and Bonnie thunder from Gotham Girls All stars.
What would you do differently if you were starting out today?
I would have started sooner!
To hopefully do my teamies proud!
Hobbies outside of GCRD:
I like cats, crafting, I hoard nail varnish like theres no tomorrow, go to the gym and drink cider on occasion :-)
