Come along to a boot camp hosted by our very own Rock’N Riot, Jo Mamma and Udder Mayhem! The skaters are currently on the Team Scotland Training Squad and Rock N Riot has already represented Scotland in the World Cup in Dallas in 2014! The skaters are keen to share their knowledge to their sisters in the north – however, we welcome all leagues to join us for this event!

Two levels will be catered for:

• Pre-mins: We will cover stops, crossovers, transitions, and you’ll even get to practice hits with a crash pad! The session will finish with a directed positional (non-contact) scrim, so you can get to grips with game play!

• Mins passed: All we ask is that you have passed your mins! We will cover reformation, beading and offence, as well as an edges masterclass from Jo (who has figure skated for many years prior to derby!). The session will finish with a directed scrim, where you can put your new skills into practice.

Tickets are only £7, which is a bargain! You can buy them HERE or on the door on the day

Team Scotland merch will also be available to buy on the day. We’d also love if you could support us at the selection game in Dundee on the 11th February.

We look forward to meeting you all!

We are delighted to announce that three Granite City Roller Derby skaters have been selected for the 2016/17 Team Scotland Training Squad.

The skaters include Jill Simpson (otherwise known as Rock’N Riot), Jo Banks (Jo Mamma) and Christine McCartney (Udder Mayhem).

Jill, who has already represented Scotland at the World Cup in Dallas, Texas, in December 2014, says “I was absolutely thrilled to find out I was selected to be on the training squad. This is the second time for me but I was just as nervous and excited as the first time. The skill level is so high, I feel very lucky! New the real hard work begins!”

Christine, co-captain of Granite’s A-team, The Northern Fights, says, “I couldn’t quite believe it when I found out, and I think it is still sinking in! I feel absolutely honoured and delighted to be selected for the training squad, and am excited to train alongside some very talented ladies!”

The girls applied for Team Scotland by initially filling out an application form and writing a personal statement on why they should be selected. The girls were then invited to attend try outs in Dundee, where they were put through their paces and assessed by a panel of selectors.

The World Cup will be held in 2017, however, the location is still yet to be confirmed. Despite this, Team Scotland are getting ready and have also just released their new logo which features the National Animal of Scotland – the Unicorn!

The announcement was officially made by Team Scotland Roller Derby on their social media accounts on the 25th July. The Training Squad comprises of the top 30 skaters that tried out, which will be narrowed down to the final 20 over the coming months. The girls are incredibly excited, and look forward to training with the squad in the very near future.

You can catch the girls in action at their next home game against Glasgow Roller Derby’s “Maiden Grrders” at the Beach Leisure Centre on Saturday 27th August. Their B-team, the Fight Hawks, will also be playing in this action packed double header!
