Our fundraising team have been amazing this year, and have managed to secure us 2 fantastic grants! The first of these comes from Sport Aberdeen, who have awarded us a development grant of £1,371, so that we can provide uniform, helmets, equipment and training sessions to our B team. Our Fight Hawks are going to look and to be absolutely fierce!

Sport Aberdeen Development Grant - £1,371

Project: Funding for B Team the ‘Fight Hawks’ - equipment, coaching, hall hire and their Cherry Popper home game!

The money from this grant will be used for:

o Home & away kit

o Helmets

o Equipment - cones, bibs, whistles, first aid kit & tape measures

o Off-skates conditioning coaching sessions

o Fight Hawks first home game!!

This grant is fantastic news, because it allows us to support our intermediate training squad throughout their first year, and give them the exciting and tangible goal of their first home game! We hope this inspires all those who join us as fresh meat to know that there are great opportunities for progression with Granite City Roller Derby.

The second grant is for a phenomenal £4,690, from Awards for All Scotland! Part of this grant will cover kit and equipment costs, as well as hall hire. One of the most exciting parts of this grant is the £1,500 which will be put towards providing some essential starter kits for our new skaters, and the £500 for coach development! This will be used for UKRDA coaching sessions, which will help improve our coaching for every one of our members.

Finally, this grant awards £560 for game costs, which will allow us to host a home game DOUBLE HEADER!

Well it's that time again beautiful people! It's time to get your rock on again, we have an awesome line up this year which include:

Talking sideways...

These guys are from Aberdeen and heavily influenced by Biffy Clyro, Reuben, Brand new amongst others. I do love a bit of Biffy :D check them out here.

Miss Lucid...

Miss Lucid offer their own style of 'in your face' rock, driven with the punk/grunge undertones of bands such as The Clash and Nirvana, blending large sonic sound scapes and crafted melodies reminiscent of Placebo and Manic Street Preachers. This cohesive sound of anthemic and melodic guitar sound is bolstered with thought provoking, poignant lyricism with an abrasive pop knack.

Starting off in 2008 as The Hungry Mongrels cover band, these guys knew that something good had happened. Playing gigs non stop in and around Aberdeen was how they moulded their playing style and welded themselves together as a band. They went through a few line-up changes but have gone with the combination of Ross Yule beating the shit outta the drums, Kev McLean slappin' da bass and Jon 'Bon' Davie screeching on vocals and howlin' on the guitar. The guys are always writing and working on new ideas to keep themselves fresh and on top of the game and the eclectic mix of influences in the band such as Thin Lizzy, The Wildhearts, Elvis Presley, Backyard Babies, The Clash and so on involves ideas from all angles creeping into their songs.

In June 2010 they made it into the shortlist of bands rated 'particularly awesome' by Kerrang radio in a competition to support Bon Jovi at the 02 arena in London but were unfortunately beaten to the punch. Their debut album 'Go For Broke' was released worldwide in August 2012. At the start of 2013 they were crowned 'Best Rock Band' at the Fudge awards in Aberdeen and made it to the final of Cafe Drummond's battle of the bands to win £2000.

So far they've supported the likes of Reckless Love, Enuff Z'Nuff, JettBlack, Furyon, Jim Jones Revue, Lost Angels, Heaven's Basement, Gun, Firebrand Superock, Die So Fluid, T.V. Smith of The Adverts, Stiff Little Fingers and Attica Rage. Always playing, practicing and polluting, look out for GutterGodz somewhere near you soon!

Doors open at 8pm, £8 entry. Once again there will be the GCRG booze raffle where one luck guy or girl will have a chance to win a hamper load of booze!!, plus there's loads more prizes so remember to buy your tickets when you get to the venue.

Looking forward to seeing you all there :D
