Formed in 2008 Granite City Roller Derby are Aberdeen's original Roller Derby league.
From humble beginnings skating in a car park, the league has grown to become a huge success. Currently we have two bouting teams - the Northern Fights, and the Fight Hawks - and bring in and coach new skaters all the time, running training sessions 5 nights a week across Aberdeen!
Roller Derby is a fast-paced and full-contact indoor sport played by teams on quad roller skates. A refreshing example of a sport where women compete at the highest level, manage, coach and run all aspects of the sport.
Granite City Roller Derby are members of UKRDA and play under WFTDA rules. For the past 2 years they have competed in the British Championships, and will be moving into tier 3 in 2017.
Roller Derby is growing all the time. Since GCRD hosted Scotland’s first Tournament in 2010 the number of teams in Scotland has exploded. And there are now around 100 leagues UK wide, including a growing number of men's and mixed (co-ed) leagues.
Anyone over 18 is welcome to come and join our new skaters course where we aim to build a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment. Entry is open to people of all abilities and our experienced coaches provide comprehensive training for our fast, fun, hard-hitting sport. Check out our "Join Us" page for more info.
And if playing isn’t for you remember that the excitement of Roller Derby couldn’t happen without the hard work of our officials, both on and off skates. Our officiating team have travelled across Britain to help other teams to put on public games. We’ve also sent coaches to help new leagues get started and our members are an enthusiastic presence at local charity events.
